Chiefly family letters written from Charleston, S.C., and elsewhere by Mrs. Christopher P. Poppenheim [Mary Elinor Bouknight Poppenheim] and four daughters: Mary B., Ida, Louisa (who went by "Loulie"), and Christy, re family travels, local activities, acquaintances, and clothing and fashions, especially Loulie's dress worn for her graduation from Vassar, Apr. 1889 Letter, 5 Mar. 1889 (New Orleans, La.) from Mary B. Poppeheim to Mother, re her enjoyment of the people and parties in New Orleans, "So far I have seen little of the city & lots of the Mardi Gras.... I should rather live here than any place I have seen yet, London not excepted." Letter, 22 Mar. 1889, Ida to Loulie, chiefly re death of Sabina Lowndes, "she had been ill only 21 days with typhoid fever."
